Sitting on the opposite side of the table Jack could read the reporter's face like a book. The little weasel wanted something juicy he could print but Jack knew better, and because he did he milked the guy for all his worth.
So what you're saying is that you know who's going to win, the reporter half asked half stated.
I never said such a thing, Jack replied
You just said that you were willing to bet with me that you'd guess the winner, the incredulous reporter shot back.
And I am, Jack said smiling But that is a risk I'm willing to take, he finished.
You? Take risks? That's a joke, the reporter added suspiciously.
So, do we have a bet?
Sure why not, the reporter conceded.
I'm betting that one or more of the following riders will finish in the top 10

Jack simply nodded his approval and finished his whiskey.
